Slider
Slider is a free application that allows you to prevent accidental input when your BlackBerry is not in use. The applications loads on device startup and runs in the background. Slider is tied in with system so that when the backlight turns off Slider will enter the foreground.

Slider as it appears after screen dim.
Background Image
- From the Media application open the Picture viewer.
- While viewing an image select the option to “set as Slider background”.
- The next time the screen dims and Slider is activated your custom image will be used.
Note: large images may not work and will result in an error.

Options Menu
There is now an options menu in the main BlackBerry Options screen. The entry is called Slider. From here you can disable the clicking sound. You can also disable the app from coming to the foreground while you are in a call.

No updates planned at the moment. What kind of features are you looking for? I haven’t used berryslider in a long time but i’d say if you like it buy it.
just installed and it doesnt work. cannot launch. any suggestions?
Do you get an error? Can you see the icon? I guess make sure the application is trusted and all the permissions are set to allow. Or try deleting it and re installing.
im on a blackberry storm 9530 and when the slider activates horizontally, the slider bar doesnt show up. also, i dont have the option at all to set a image as my slider background.
also, for the next release, it would be nice if you could make your own custom text instead of the standard “slide to unlock”
Thats a BlackBerry bug that should be fixed in the latest released version of 5.0 on Verizon.
To set an image you should see the option when your viewing a picture in your pictures app.
I’ll add custom text, and I am also thining about making it theme able so you can use custom images as well.
Great app better than iberry slider. i have my screen background light set to 1 minute. seems that slider stays on for the full minute after activated. every time i accidently press the screen it comes on and stays on for the full minute. anyway to put a backlight timeout?
Theres a timeout feature built in that will prevent it from being launched during the timeout period. But I believe if your backlight timeout is 1min your screen will stay on for 1 minute regardless of the app being displayed…
yeah, it killed my battery today, i do a lot of manual labor and the phone screen is always being pressed. with the default lock button the backlight will not come even if you press the screen. i activate the slider with the left convenience key. but as you mentioned it stays on for the full minute, every time i looked in my pocket today the screen was on and i’m down to the last bar on the battery. can you build in an auto dim after activate for a couple seconds?
I might be able to add a second timeout so that if you dont slide it within x seconds it goes back to sleep. I’ll look into it.
Is there a faster way to unlock the phone when in slider?
I am not sure what you mean, If you slide it fast and turn off sound its pretty instant.
Sun, I think I just put the sound on the slide, but I could add it to the lock as well. I could change the unlock to be just press or click, might make it an option.
The reset option just resets the image. however once you select yes and save, it performs the action and reverts your answer back to no, this way its only reset the one time when you click it.
Sun… Make sure you “save” your changes. After you make them, press the BlackBerry key and select “Save.”
Just to add to the above… in option – slider – reset image cannot be set to YES.. everytime I do that and go back n come to it it again shows NO.. unable to change that!! please help… cheers !
Hey… Thanks so much for the quick response…. can see the ‘Set picture as slider background” and inspite of selecting that option the actual pic doestn show as background!!!???
Also, the sound is just for accepting the password and not when you slide your finger to unlock?? Do you have something which makes sound there as well… sorry i know could be a dumb request but is tht possible???
Also, the password has to be pressed in and not just a touch type like in other storm slider applications???

Sun, the Set as Slider Background option will only show for jpeg and png images, while you are viewing the image. Let me know if that helps.
It sounds like the application is running in compatability mode, go to options, applications, slider and disable this. While your there check the application permissions and make sure they are all allowed.
Im really really frustrated…. downloaded the OTA version of the slider for my BB Storm 9500 OS v 4.7.
Unable to get the “Set as Slider Background” in Sample images in Media.
When trying to unlock the slider shows only half screen and on the lower half is just the keyboard!!!! PLEASE HELP.. I NEED THIS!!!!!!
roger, once you relaunch the app it should stay running , without you having to restart. Just double check the settings to make sure its set to launch etc. The low battery might be before it turns red. I think it was 25% or something.
Thank you for your prompt response. It did it again last night and, yes, my battery was low. I changed the setting as you suggested. The first occurrence, however, I’m about 99% sure the battery wasn’t low – at least not in the red. Is there any way of restarting the app without a reboot? It works “manually” when I press the app icon, but I have to reboot to get it to run continuously.
Love the app so far. Just downloaded it last night. I did have an issue today that I don’t understand, however. After some listening to an internet radio station and getting some messages and phone calls, Slider quit working, and I don’t know what caused it. I rebooted and it is now working again. Any suggestions?
It might be the one “feature” I added. If your battery gets into the red by default the app will exit. Check under options/slider and see if you have exit on low battery set to yes.
Chris, Not sure to be honest, I just tested it and it worked ok for me, But I might not have the same profile settigns as you.
Negative on that. Just the built-in magnet function. perhaps when slider brings itself to focus it fools the BB into thinking it’s not holstered. Odd indeed. Still an otherwise solid app.
Chris, do you have a 3rd party app that changes your profile when you holster your device? Otherwise I have no idea, thats really strange how my app could affect your profiles.
When I have Slider activated in holster, the holster ring/vibrate profile preferences aren’t active. I.e. In holster my BB is supposed to vibrate only but with Slider active the audible ringtone plays. Is there a fix for this? Otherwise great app.
Nice little app. This one actually works and doesn’t screw up your phone.
josh> as of 1.6 it should work regardless of picture size, It just takes a screenshot now. You have to wait until it says picture saved. Make sure you rebooted if you were prompted too. If not pull the battery. You can also try using reset in the options.
I am using 1.6 OTA with 5.0OS and I can’t get the background to change either. Is there a KB limit on the picture size or something or should I try to reload with the desktop loader?

I downloaded the 1.5 version OTA for my storm 9530. I was able to change my background image, but couldny find the settings page to change any of the options, specifically to change the password. Where is that?

I still cant use a background picture as its always the wrong way up?! When the phone is in portrait mode, the picture is twisted left into landscape mode and visa versa…
Xtreme when 5.0 is released it will work fine.
the only ? i have with the app i’m runnin storm OS 5.0.0.230 it doesn’t let you as background pic. Will you be updatin the app for 5.0 OSs?
